Most of us would not know if Mount Tambora was recorded as the higgest volcano in Indonesia. That was before the volcano erupted explosively in April 1815.
When it reaches the summit of mount Tambora altitude of about 4,300 meters above sea level. Compare with the highest in Indonesia, Jayawijaya, Papua, with elevation of approximately 3,050 meters above sea level.
After Tambora erupted, the land on the top of it spewed in all directions. As a result, the height of volcano that was left in half, wich is about 2851 meters above sea level.
Eruptions were so horible that also left a huge caldera. In fact, according to the records, the broadest measure of the caldera in Indonesia. The caldera has diameter about 7 kilometers, the maximum lenght was 16 kilometers and depht of 1,5 kilometers.
The eruption of mount Tambora also carry a huge linslide material into the sea. Landslide caused a tsunami on the beaches Indonesia such as Bima, in East Java and Maluku. The height of tsunami was estimated at 4 meters.
